International Peace Cooperation Assignment in Timor-Leste

The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (East Timor) (UNMIT) was established in 2006 with its mandates to maintain and improve peace and security, and to support presidential and parliamentary electoral process. Japan has dispatched between March 2007 and February 2008 civilian police officers and, between March and July 2007 election observers. Japan has further dispatched September 2010, two military liaison officers in response to the request from the United Nations.

Military Liaison Officers

Two military liaison officers have been dispatched to Timor-Leste in order to carry out the tasks that are deemed necessary in observing the ceasefire and disengagement.

Coordination and liaison personnel

In order to enable the Japanese military liaison officers who are dispatched to UNMIT to carry out their duties smoothly and effectively, liaison and coordination personnel is also sent to Dili.
